[Photo] Back layout into Kick

Its not a very clear picture, but that's cos my friend Ryota is upside down. We were out in the field training and he just decided that we would do a single legged open backflip ( I dunno what its called but thats what it was). He's so light, its not funny, why can't i be like him, arghhhhhh. Though he has gymnastics training, so i'll hand that to him. Too bad i can't upload videos to the blog, it looks so much cooler moving.

[Technique] The Aerial

The aerial is a variation of the cartwheel, except you do it without your hands with your head hovering inches above the ground. If you're used to doing cartwheels, then you know that when u do a cartwheel u aim for the floor. When you do an aerial however, you don't. You look straight. It'll seem weird at first, but it is essential u DO NOT dip your head down to the floor when u jump, ALWAYS look straight, otherwise you'll end up with a nasty headache.

Technical steps would be, look straight, kick you back leg as hard as you can while at the same time jump as hard as you can with ur jumping leg and swing it over. Try to swing your arms back and up to help give u more air time. When u jump, do not try to twist your body or you will disrupt your momentum and end up landing short, this is a mistake i used to make earlier on which made me think the aerial was so sooo hard.

As soon as i stopped trying to twist, it went over naturally. Don't try doing an aerial unless u already have a decent cart wheel and feel light on your hands when u plant. Get the basics, then move up.

[Action Photography] Visible Energy

Chi can be seen visibly flowing from the point of impact. You'll need one of em special energy visual picking up camera things to take this picture. Please advise your photographer to stand way way back, we nearly lost ours during this shot. However her dedication gave her the strength to stand her ground while she got blasted by the energy wave......I salute thee.

[Balance] The importance of core strength

Your abdominals, back muscles, hip flexors, and obliques are what give you your core strength. Strengthening these muscles will not only help you generate more power kicks and punches and pull all sorts of weird ass and extremely cool stunts; but they will also help u to pull some very unnatural poses.

[Action Photography] Flying kick

In the arsenal of kicks, the flying kick is one of the most devastating, with the power to send your opponent flying up up and away. The guy flying away, dreams of being a super hero. He is now one step closer to achieving his dream.

[Action Photography] Floating

All things are possible with proper focus, and an excellent photographer ;).

[Action Photography] Punch

When punching, one should always control their power. Also, when trying to look cool, one should stand in line with the setting sun, it has a much better standing effect.

[Technique] The back sault

The back sault or back flip is hazardous for your health if you don't know how to do it, or don't have a spotter. Basic steps to doing one, 1) stand and stare at a spot directly in front of you. 2)Keeping your gaze focused on that spot, jump up as high as you can while swinging your arms back and over your head. 3) While in the air, tuck your knees into your chest as fast as you can ( this will give you faster rotation), all the while during rotation you should try and search for the spot you were gazing at initially and you should be looking at it when you land. Once again, don't try this without an experienced spotter. Dedicate your jump and at worst you'll land on your knees, never stall half way, that's when bad things happen =D.

[Technique] The au batido

This move is called the au batido, one of the more basic capoeira moves. You can do it with either a straight leg or a bent leg, easier to do it with bent leg if you're just starting out. Grab your kicking leg for extra support =D

[Photo] The last 'roda'

This was taken at the very end of the 12 hour training session. Was dead tired by then, though we managed to have a 'roda' at the very end of it and I managed at least one game. Poor effort I must admit on my part, though standing around I managed to take good video of at least half of it though. 12 hours of training and they can still manage to play, that's capoeirista's for you.

[Photo] Group pic after T-12

After a gruelling 12 hour training session organised by our capoeira coach Chan, it was from 7pm Saturday evening till 7am Sunday morning. Legs were starting to cramp by midnight but i think that was due to the fact that I skipped on dinner (dumb). What you see in the pic are the people who managed to make it through the night.I'm the guy lying on the ground in black, Chan is the dude right in the middle in the white shirt between the girls. Seriously amazing guy, great capoeirista as well. Guy on my right ( left from where you're looking) is Xu Jiang, my man from back in college, keeps me going when i get too lazy to train.
